The implementation of this Project will have a beneficial effect on the sustainable development of the region by actively involving communities in solving problems at the local level. About 5,500 hectares are occupied by fallows - decommissioned and unrooted perennial plantations, they can be considered degraded land, which in the future can be used in agriculture or for deforestation in order to improve the ecological situation in the region. About 800 ha of pastures located on the slopes can be used for planting vineyards.
Reservoirs, which are in sufficient quantity in the region, large forest and other natural objects can be used for the development of agritourism and recreation, which will contribute to the economic development of the region, which means its sustainable development. The Taraclia region faces numerous challenges in the conservation of forest ecosystems and endangered biodiversity.
The land areas of the Taraclia region are subject to the process of desertification, in which desert conditions cause the process of degradation, to a greater extent, a significant decrease in soil productivity. Desertification causes the land to become barren.
Desertification exacerbates economic, social and environmental problems such as poverty, poor health, food insecurity, loss of biodiversity, water scarcity, declining resilience to climate change and forced migration.
In the Taraclia region, natural resources are often used irrationally, and biodiversity conservation
activities are not carried out.
Another problem is the indifferent, in many cases, attitude of the local population to environmental problems. Lack of understanding of the value and importance of careful environmental management. Lack of the "Environmental Protection" Program contributing to the coordination of nature protection at the district level.
The third problem is the lack of an elementary technical component and infrastructure within the framework of the Nursery of republican significance in the village of Balabanu.
Through the implementation of this Project, it will be possible to create information, technological, social, educational tools for the purpose of Environmental recovery in the Taraclia region, based on the intersectoral participation of stakeholders: local authorities, civil society and youth, etc.,
which will ultimately lead to socio-economic growth and the well-being of the local community.
This project involves the expansion and dissemination of successful experience to other regions of the Republic of Moldova. This means that the project supports regional cooperation, knowledge exchange and dialogue between the project beneficiaries. The progress and results of the project
will be presented both to the local community and to any interested person within the framework of the transparent displayed information on the EcoPortal and the project website.
At the operational level, the project will maximize the capacity building effect and ensure the
effectiveness and sustainability of the result, namely:
1. Popularization of the environmental protection policy through solving urgent environmental problems of the local community.
2. Creation of a Pilot Educational Technological Mini-Nursery in Taraclia.
3. Strengthening the infrastructural ecological potential: design and creation of a scientific dendrological park and a tourist facility in Taraclia on the territory of the Monastery.
4. Creation of the Green Home Volunteer Eco-Movement promoting the elimination of gender equality and the participation of women with representatives in 17 settlements of the Taraclia region with the prospect of scaling up to the Cahul and Ceadir Lunga regions.
